carbon analysis
The Sin Gusano Project is a plastic free and ‘certified carbon neutral’ enterprise.
When it comes to certification, we’re more than a little sceptical. Whether it’s certified mezcal or projects certified to generate carbon offset credits, the devil is always in the detail.
This is a controversial subject with a lot of skepticism around it (including ours). Nevertheless, with this project we’re aiming to be better, so in 2020 we committed to 3 years of carbon ‘neutrality’, with the ambition of understanding this whole topic a lot better, reducing our emissions from source, and driving a conversation around sustainability.
Read our thoughts and concerns in our blog - the murky world of carbon credits.
Two years into the third party analysis of our emissions, and our own research around the subject, while we are “certified carbon neutral” we choose to use “carbon reducing” or “carbon conscious” instead.
One thing we do know - because we did a detailed analysis of the supply chain via a consultancy called My Carbon - is how much CO2 our enterprise creates. From there we can make decisions that help reduce the ratio of carbon produced per bottle sold as the business grows. Whether you buy into the idea of offset credits or not, we believe that’s a good thing.
See our annual carbon emissions analysis and offset certificates below:
2021/22
CO2 created & offset: 18 tonnes
2020/21
CO2 created & offset: 7 tonnes
